The quality and properties of peat depend on many factors:
- Age of the bog
- Botanical composition of the moss species
- Degree of decomposition
- Intensity of the drying process and the effects of frost
- Type of preparation, fractionation and packaging
We distinguish the following categories:
- White peat: Low to slightly decomposed, light color
- Brown peat: Moderately decomposed, brown color
- Black peat: Highly decomposed, dark to black color
- Peat fibers: Sifted fibers
